Lawton Library Collection

Alice in Wonderland 2002

Doll: 9" Porcelain and Wood

Edition Limited to 175

Wendy Lawton believes in telling stories with dolls, but with this edition of The Lawton Library Collection, you only need to crack the cover on the leather book box and Lewis Carroll's enchanting story of Alice unfolds. Our heroine wears the traditional Tenniel Alice dress with an organdy pinafore trimmed in black couching. Her exquisite silk white queen dress and crown from Through the Looking Glass are included. The Pink Flamingo stands at the ready for a game of croquet, but you'll have to look closely to see the tiny hedgehog hiding in a cubbyhole of the book.

Collectors know Wendy Lawton as a doll maker, but she's spent many years crafting words as well.  A much-published writer of magazine articles, Lawton 's very first middle grade juvenile fiction series releases from Moody Press (Chicago) in April 2002.  Wendy Lawton's mission statement has long been "To tell stories with porcelain and paint pictures with words."  In Daughters of the Faith, she deftly combines art with the written word.

"Mary Bunyan and Harriet Tubman, the real life girls who've formed the centerpiece of these stories,  come alive as dolls," says Wendy Lawton. "I'm excited about telling their stories in both porcelain and words."

The Little Women Collection

Meg's Wedding 2002

Doll: 14" Wood and porcelain

Edition Limited to 175

The beloved story of Little Women is being told in a four year collection- each year focusing on one of the March sisters. In 2001 we told the unforgettable story of Miss Jo March.  For 2002 we join the March sisters in celebrating Meg's wedding.  Meg, the eldest, was the homemaker of the March family and her wedding day marked her coming of age.  Her wedding dress is an authentic recreation of a civil war wedding ensemble, worn over hoops and crinolines and pantalets.  Antique lace, made in France nearly one hundred years ago, trims the tiers of her skirt. The simple veil, also trimmed in antique lace, is held in place by antique velvet flowers.  A long row of modest gold buttons embellishes the jacket.  Meg holds a white Bible and a bouquet of white roses. Also included is Meg's house dress and apron, because, despite the glow of her wedding day, Meg looks forward to her life of domesticity. A faux marble dress form is included to display the extra ensemble.

Many Lawton dealers are able to arrange matched, numbered sets of all four Little Women dolls. see your dealer for details.
