Little Red Riding Hood - 1992

1st Edition

Edition of 750

Retail Price $450

Can there be another fairytale as universally loved as Little Red Riding Hood? We all thrilled to the story of the plucky little girl, who is innocently trying to bring a basket of goodies to her grandmother, and who nearly is eaten by a fearsome wolf for her trouble.

Little Red Riding Hood is dressed in a traditional dirndl of black cotton with an intricately embroidered bodice, over an ecru cotton blouse. She wears the red hood and cape that her mother lovingly made her, and matching red suede shoes. She carries the basket Mother had packed for Grandmother with a crusty loaf of French bread, a jar of preserves and the bunch of flowers she picked in the forest. Little Red Riding Hood has brown hair and blue eyes, is all-porcelain and stands 14" tall.

The Little Emperor's Nightingale - 1992

2nd Edition

Edition of 750

Retail Price $425

This classic tale tells of the Chinese emperor who loved the song of the nightingale, but allowed his court followers to replace the drab little bird with a mechanical, jeweled reproduction.

Our version of The Little Emperor's Nightingale carries the broken mechanical bird. The wing is sprung, but the bird is still magnificent with its gilt and Austrian crystals. Painstakingly made in the Lawton's workshops, it is the perfect accompaniment to the emperor. The Little Emperor is dressed in black velvet trousers under a gold and red brocade, quilted jacket, edged in gold. He has brocade shoes to match. The emperor wears the traditional hair tuft and has jet black, painted eyes. The Little Emperor's Nightingale is all-porcelain, 14" tall.

William Tell, the Younger - 1992

3rd Edition

Edition of 750

Retail Price $395

The age-old Swiss tale of William Tell's courage against the Austrian tyranny has been told and re-told over the years, but the part we love best is when William Tell is required to shoot an apple from the top of his beloved son's head.

For our version of this tale, Wendy has used her son, Patrick, as the model for William Tell, the Younger. The little William's face mirrors some of the apprehension he must feel, but he bravely stands with his hands behind his back, trusting in his father's skill and love. Little William is dressed in ecru cotton leggings and an ecru blouse made of cotton netting imported from Switzerland. His olive green jerkin is topped with a mantle of brown leather. His apple perches atop the mantle hood. He wears soft kid shoes, laced up to the knees. William Tell, the Younger is all-porcelain, 14" tall.

Swan Princess - 1992

4th Edition

Edition of 750

Retail Price $495

Remember the story of the princess who saved her twelve brothers? Turned into swans by their wicked stepmother, the Swan Princess' brothers were doomed to remain that way, until their sister discovered how to break the spell. She had to knit shirts of stinging nettles to throw over them, while remaining mute through the entire ordeal. The story of how she accomplished that feat and found true love in the process is the stuff fairytales are made of.

Swan Princess has flaxen hair and gray eyes. Her gown of red velveteen is embellished with gold braid. Her bodice and cap are quilted and beaded with tiny crystal rocaille beads. Her gold metallic sleeves are encased in a velveteen sleeve laced up with silken cords. She wears matching red leather slippers and carries her knitting, partially completed. Swan Princess is all-porcelain and is 14" tall.

Snow White is dressed in a dirndl of teal and black, intricately hand-worked with delicately shaded rosebuds. Every detail is complete from her hand-woven black wool shawl to the dainty feather-stitching encircling her slip; from her hand-cobbled leather shoes to the dwarf's straw broom. She is all-porcelain, 14" tall.

Goldilocks And Baby Bear - 1993

6th Edition

Edition of 350 sets

"Someone's been sleeping in my bed, and here she is!"--- Baby Bear from "Goldilocks and the Three Bears"

This beloved fairy tale is brought to life in Wendy Lawton's unconventional but delightfully whimsical interpretation. Baby Bear is shocked to discover the heedless intruder. Goldilocks, stricken by the confrontation, is speechless.

Goldilocks wears a smocked cotton blouse under an intricately hand embroidered dirndl. Wendy Lawton sculpted Baby Bear's face with almost human-like expression while Merrythought Limited designed his stoic little body in a soft nutmeg-colored plush. His hand embroidered vest compliments Goldilocks' attire. Goldilocks is all-porcelain, 14" tall. Baby Bear stands a solid 10" tall. Goldilocks and Baby Bear have been issued in matched, numbered sets.
