Zudie’s Coverlet - 1996 - No Photo Available Edition of 350 Retail Price $895.00 Zudie is proud of the work that went into making her coverlet. Each edition in this series, the Fabric of America, will highlight a different regional example of textile work. The collection as a whole, will showcase that patchwork of individuality that makes us unique, in spite of being joined together. Zudie is dressed in a richly hued drop-waist dress. Her dark eyes sparkle and her black hair is neatly tied into beribboned braids. Her stenciled, hand-tied coverlet is displayed on a wooden quilt stand for all to admire. Zudie is the first African-American wooden-bodied doll issued by Lawtons. She stands 16" tall on a fully articulated wooden body with porcelain head and hands. The quilt stand is hand made in the Lawton workshops and is 18" tall. Her meticulously crafted coverlet measures 17" x 13." |
Bobbin Lace - 1997 Edition of 350 Retail Price $895 She loves to sit with her lace-making cushion in her lap as she works the complicated stitches with large pins and small bobbins to create her delicate bobbin lace. Working over an age-old design pricked in parchment paper, she plys her craft in much the same manner as it was done in the old country. Emeline has porcelain hands and head on a spring-jointed wooden body and is 16" tall. Her lace pillow is a traditional lace bolster made of cotton and flax, complete with bobbins and lace-in-progress. The ladder back chair is completely handmade in the Lawton workshops and is available separately. |
