The Scarlet Letter - 1996

Edition of 250

Retail Price $1,495

An enduring piece of American literature, rich in both story and symbolism, The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is the basis for the first edition in the Classic Literature™ Collection. Hester Prynne is dressed in traditional Puritan garb, but, if you'll look closely, her collar, cuffs, cap and apron have been carefully embellished with meticulous handwork. Hester's letter A, defiantly worked in a combination of scarlet and gold, is the only color evident against the brooding shades of her clothing. Her dark eyes glint near-black against her lustrous dark hair. Pearl, lovingly dressed in shades of scarlet and gold, with her leading strings still evident, harks back to an earlier day. Her old-fashioned gown is heavily ornamented with Hester's painstaking handwork. Pearl's dark brown hair and brown eyes sparkle with light. Hester Prynne stands 16" tall and has porcelain hands and head on a spring-jointed wooden body. Pearl is all-porcelain and is 12" tall.
