Mary Frances - 1990 15th Edition Edition of 350 Retail Price $350 Little girls all across America learned “domestic arts” along with Mary Frances, the quintessential American child during the second decade of this century. She was the heroine of a wonderful series of fictionalized how-to books, delightfully written and illustrated by Jane Eayre Fryer. Just perfect for our Childhood Classics® collection. It was important not to succumb to a cute look for her, as in the books, she's just a step away from homely in each illustration. This was a little girl who could roll up her sleeves and get the job done. Our little Mary Frances looks like she’s just stepped out of the Mary Frances Garden Book, but she is just as likely to have been romping through the pages of Easy Steps in Sewing, the Mary Frances Cook Book or even the Mary Frances Housekeeper. She holds a gardening tool, but her pinafore is copied from a pattern in the sewing book. With big brown eyes, brown hair, and sturdy boots with cotton stockings, she's ready for any task. |
